Comments Hi! Would it be possible to do a ltd run of some more characters from the Herbs that I have missed... please, please!
Sugarlump Studio Comments I'm afraid not... The Sugarlump Studio no longer exists, and no more figures in any of the previous ranges will ever be produced again.

Comments Hi! Is it possible to tell us how many of each character was produced?
Sugarlump Studio Comments Unfortunately information is a bit limited. Here's the best we can do at present (in approximate order of rarity)...
Bayleaf (Prototype) = Less than a dozen (probably 7-9).
Potting Shed = 90
The Roundabout = Less than 280 (probably 200-250).
Dougal & Sugar Mini Scene = Less than 400
Zebedee & Ermintrude Mini Scene = Less than 500
Brian & Potting Shed Mini Scene = Less than 500
Buxton = Less than 2,000

Comments Someone commented back in February on The Potting Shed and what it was fetching on Ebay. A fortnight or so ago, one went for a staggering £870!! ...unfortunately I could not stretch to that!
Any new figures on the horizon for us Sugarlump Fans Andrew?
Sugarlump Studio Comments Andrew will sculpt new works in the future, but unfortunately there will be no more figures like those currently shown on this site. Any developments will be mentioned on the News page, but no timescales are available at the moment.

Comments For the month of August Buckinghamshire County Museum's featured object of the month on its website will be a Dougal hand puppet. There will be an image of the hand puppet, as well as an image of the Magic Roundabout Game. To view the page go to www.buckscc.gov.uk/museum.

Comments I am a great fan of your Magic Roundabout figures. I started collecting them about 18 months ago, but unfortunately had to stop when they retired. I have 7 of the figures and think they are super! Thank you very much for making such lovely collectables!

Comments I am fortunate that I nearly managed to complete my collections, but 1 piece has eluded me. Snuffles from the Lunar Bugs. Do you know of any shops that still have any stock? Is Andrew any closer to starting a new range? I am sure whatever he decides to do he will get the support from all have purchased his previous work.

Comments We have just started collecting the Magic Roundabout figures. They are lovely. Are any still available anywhere to buy? We have some that are dusty having been on open display. What is the best way to clean them? Ideas most welcome.
Sugarlump Studio Comments For cleaning dusty figures it might be worth trying a "blower brush". These consist of a soft brush attached to a bulb which is squeezed to blow air through the brush. They are usually used for cleaning cameras and small electrical items, and you can get them from camera shops for a few pounds.

Comments Hi!
Just out of interest can anyone who has a Bayleaf out their tell everyone on the site - it might be nice for us all to actually see one of these and know how many actually exist.
Cheers, Mark
Sugarlump Studio Comments I will be adding a Bayleaf page (including his picture) to the Herbs section of the site soon. There are around 7 - 9 Bayleafs out there somewhere!

Comments Hi Andrew,
Sorry to hear you won't be doing any more TV characters. Will you be carrying on with the Lunar Bugs such as from Mars and Venus?
Sugarlump Studio Comments I'm afraid Andrew probably won't be creating any more Lunar Bugs either.

Comments I don't own any yet but after seeing them a couple of weeks ago I think they are great. Shame I only took an interest so late. Hopefully you will do more. If not thanks for the ones you have brought out, at least it will be a challenge to collect them.

Comments Hi!
If Andrew starts producing figures again, would it be new sets of classic children's TV, for example Flumps?
Can we have people's opinions on this board of what sets we would like to see and if there is a loy of response, then maybe the bank manager may give us all a break and we can see you doing what you do best.
Sugarlump Studio Comments Thank you for your words of support, but I'm afraid Andrew will definitely not be sculpting any more TV characters... in the future he will be stearing clear of 'licensed characters' and concentrating on his own ideas.

Comments Do you think you will ever start up again? Surely you can't just stop doing what you are obviously so good at? I heard that you were "cleaned out" shall we say, but what a waste of such an excellent talent. Nothing quite like the Sugarlump figures!
Sugarlump Studio Comments It is likely that Andrew will sculpt new works in the future, but unfortunately there will be no more figures like those currently shown on this site. Any developments will be mentioned on the News page, but no timescales are available at the moment.

Comments Hi Andrew,
I notice there is a Bayleaf out their somewhere... could you let me know which shops may have a sample? It's a long shot but you never know!
Cheers, Mark
Sugarlump Studio Comments I'm afraid the only chance of finding a Bayleaf now is probably by keeping an eye on ebay, or similar auction site. Very few Bayleafs were made, and there whereabouts are now unknown... sorry.

Did Madeleine from Bagpuss ever get made up? I know a while ago you were half away through.
Sugarlump Studio Comments I'm afraid no Madeleine's were made!

Comments Potting Sheds again: Being the lucky owner of two Potting Sheds (both from ebay), I was interested to note when compairing the sheds, that the flowers on the windowsills are different colours between the two sheds. Can I ask is this by design as it adds an element of uniqueness to each one?
And finally, thanks again for producing such wonderful figures - but not helping my overdraft AT ALL - HA!
Sugarlump Studio Comments If you look closely, you'll find there are often slight differences in colour from one figure to the next. This is usually simply due to the fact that there were several people responsible for hand-painting the figures. Sometimes more pronounced colour changes can be seen where the figures were still 'evolving' at the early stages of their development.

Comments Just noticed on ebay a Bayleaf figure, supposed to be a Sugarlump piece, up for auction. The seller claims it was a prototype sent to a few shops before Sugarlump sadly went out of business. I know that Bayleaf never reached production, but can you tell me whether this piece is genuine? I'm led to believe it has Andrew's signature but no sticker on the bottom. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Sugarlump Studio Comments The ebay information is correct... there are probably between 7 and 9 Bayleaf's out there.
After a new piece is sculpted in wax, a block mould is made so that a hard master can be cast. From this block mould a few casts are created for colour experimentation and samples (prototypes) and so one can be sent for approval to the licence owners.
For Bayleaf, 7-9 prototypes were painted ready to be sent to shops as a sort of preview of what was coming. But at about the same time the decision was taken to close the Studio doors. A sample never got sent to the licence owners (it was boxed up and ready to go) since it was never going to make it into production.
The upshot is that a few prototypes did get sent out, mainly to shops who had been hassling for years about Bayleaf. Some of these figures were signed.

Comments We have not been to this site for a long time & were VERY UPSET to hear about the closure.
After buying all the Bagpuss figures a couple of years or so ago, we came on to decide which set to collect next.
We hope sometime in the future Sugarlump will rise again with more characters from our childhood and ones which have been very popular while our younger relations have been growing up.

Comments Can I ask... recently on ebay there have been a number of miniature Magic Roundabout figures (Dougal and Ermintrude). The sellers claim these come from over runs of the Mini Scenes. Are these legit or fakers trying to cash in one the Potting Shed wave?
P.S. I was one of the lucky ones who managed to bag an ebay potting shed.
Sugarlump Studio Comments These 'mini' figures originated from a shop that sold Sugarlump Studio miniatures, and they were removed from damaged Mini Scenes. There have definitely never been over-runs of figures for the Mini Scenes, nor have the 'mini' figures ever been released for sale seperately. If any other 'mini' figures turn up, then they too will almost certainly have been taken from complete Mini Scenes.

Comments Hi! I never knew about Sugarlump Studios until after you had gone and I started to see Bagpuss memorabilia appear on eBay... it's so unfair, I would have loved to have collected all the Bagpuss stuff, whatever happened to advertising? I am sure you would never have had to shut down the Studios if more people had known about your lovely works of art. I for one would have told everyone I know and more about Sugarlump's wonderful pieces. Quite a few shops advertise and sell on eBay and they don't charge a fortune either, and the merchandise gets world wide recognition, any chance of Sugarlump re-opening and selling this way? I'm quite sure it would extremely successful.
Thank you for taking the time to read my ramblings, here's hoping... best wishes for the future, Jane Goddard.

Comments I can't believe that economics have dictated that you have closed. I have just started collecting the Roundabout figures for my new baby daughter when she was born 7 months ago and thought I would have a long time to complete the set. I started off with gusto but slacked off a bit and am now regretting not actually having the Magic Roundabout for her. Geat sculptures, great copies of the characters, great memories. Sorry it didn't work out for you. I can't understand why not. Such a great idea and seemingly well executed. Your mail system was so prompt too.

Comments We love your website it is cool ya cool. But we are very disapointed as you only have information on Megan's favourite programme and there is no information on ZIPPY cause he rule!! Please update to Rainbow cause it is cool!
Sugarlump Studio Comments We agree... Zippy does deserve a place! Unfortunately though, the site only shows figures produced by the Sugarlump Studio. Since the Studio has now sadly closed its doors, it will never be able to produce Rainbow figures.

Comments I asked this before but you might have missed it... Why was the potting shed retired in the first place? I have heard speculation, including that it was because people might associate it with the "pot" you smoke".
Sugarlump Studio Comments Sorry about the delay in answering your question... the retirement was nothing to do with smoking. It was just felt that the scale of the Potting Shed in proportion to the other figures wasn't really quite right, so it was decided that it should be retired early.

Comments Many, many thanks to Zoe, who helped me complete my Magic Roundabout collection - I now have a Potting Shed (no it wasn't the one on eBay!) and a Mini Scene 3.
Good luck to you other guys in completing your collections.
